To ensure your wooden gourd lasts for years and retains the best flavour:

1. Rinse the gourd with warm water before first use.

2. Fill the gourd halfway with used yerba mate or a small amount of dry mate.

3. Add warm water (not boiling) and let it sit for 24 hours to allow the wood to absorb moisture and release any natural bitterness.

4. Empty and rinse gently with warm water.
