A Star for Sweetness: Ché Dulce de Leche Wins at the Great Taste Awards 2025
We are absolutely delighted to announce that our very own Ché Dulce de Leche has been recognised with a 1-star rating at the 2025 Great Taste Awards, the world’s most trusted food and drink accreditation.
This award is a huge milestone not only for us at Casa Argentina, but also for Argentinian food culture in the UK. It marks the first time that a traditional dulce de leche crafted under a UK-registered Argentinian brand has received such prestigious recognition from one of the most respected food panels in the world.
If you’re a fan of good food or just discovering what dulce de leche is for the first time, this blog is for you.
What Is the Great Taste Award?
Let’s begin with the basics. The Great Taste Awards, run by the Guild of Fine Food, are often referred to as the “Oscars of the food world.” Every year, over 14,000 products are blind tasted by hundreds of expert judges, including chefs, buyers, food critics, farmers, retailers and journalists.
The judging is entirely independent—no branding, no marketing, no packaging, and no bias. Just taste.
Products that impress receive either a 1-, 2- or 3-star rating, with a 1-star award meaning: "A food that delivers fantastic flavour."
So when we say that our Ché Dulce de Leche has been awarded a Great Taste star, you can trust that this recognition was earned through flavour alone.
But, What Is Dulce de Leche,
What’s All the Fuss About, Really?
Dulce de Leche (pronounced DOOL-se deh LEH-che) is a creamy caramel spread made by slowly simmering milk and sugar until it transforms into a thick, golden, rich delight. But that definition doesn’t do it justice.
In Argentina, dulce de leche is more than a spread, it’s a way of life. It's what we put on our toast at breakfast, inside our cakes for celebrations, between two alfajores at tea time, and in a spoon straight from the jar when no one's looking.
It’s nostalgic. It's comforting. It's proudly ours.
Yet for many years, true dulce de leche hasn’t had the spotlight it deserves in the UK. Many supermarket alternatives are either overly sweet, artificial-tasting, or lacking the depth that makes the real thing so special.
That’s exactly why we created Ché Dulce de Leche.
What Makes Ché Dulce de Leche So Special?
When we started crafting our own brand, we had a clear mission:
To bring authentic, honest, Argentinian-style dulce de leche to the UK, without shortcuts, compromises, or additives.
Made With High Quality Standard Ingredients
Unlike many other versions made with untraceable milk, or even condensed milk, our Ché Dulce de Leche is crafted using full-cream milk, a crucial factor for creating a deep, creamy texture and a naturally rich flavour.
Traditional Slow Cooking Process
We follow the same method used in Argentinian kitchens for generations, cooking slowly over low heat to achieve the perfect caramelisation and silky texture. No rush, no pressure, no shortcuts.
No Palm Oil, No Preservatives, No Nasties
Many caramel spreads and “toffee sauces” in the market are loaded with palm oil, artificial thickeners, or stabilisers. Not ours. We believe in simple, honest ingredients, because when you start with good milk and cook it right, you don’t need to hide behind additives.
Endorsed by the Experts
Here’s what the Great Taste judges had to say:
“Luxurious texture with a natural milky caramel profile. Not overly sweet, with a clean, creamy finish and hints of vanilla. A well-crafted product, clearly made with care.”
That last part, "clearly made with care", is what it’s all about for us.
Why the Great Taste Awards Matter for Your Busines
Run by the Guild of Fine Food, the Great Taste Awards are often described as
The “Oscars of the food world.”
Products are blind-tasted by expert panels of chefs, buyers, and food writers. Less than 40% of entries receive any kind of star rating, making it a genuine mark of excellence.
For you as a professional buyer, whether in baking, chocolate-making, or ice cream production, this accreditation provides assurance. It means our Ché Dulce de Leche has been independently tested, trusted, and proven to deliver outstanding taste and consistency.
There are hundreds of caramel products on UK shelves. Some are branded as dulce de leche, but very few follow traditional methods. None are recognised for quality by a panel of independent experts.
And none, until now, have been awarded a Great Taste star under a UK-based, Argentinian-led brand like ours.
This award puts Ché Dulce de Leche on the map as:
A benchmark for authenticity
A stamp of quality you can trust
A symbol of what real dulce de leche should taste like
It also helps educate British consumers about what sets true dulce de leche apart from general caramel or spreadable toffee.
In short: it raises the bar.
What It Means for Our Customers and Your Customers?
When you choose an award-winning product, you’re not just choosing an ingredient, you’re adding value to your own creations. Whether it’s pralines filled with dulce de leche, premium ice creams swirled with caramel richness, or pastries layered with authentic flavour, your customers will taste the difference.
Great Taste accreditation strengthens your story too: you can showcase to your audience that you use award-winning ingredients in your products.

Why We Created Ché
Creating Ché wasn’t just a product decision, it was a cultural one.
We’ve spent years importing Argentina’s most iconic brands, La Salamandra, San Ignacio, as well as recognised European brands such as Mardel, Havanna and others. And we’ll continue to do so, because they’re brilliant.
But we also knew there was room to do something ours. Something with Casa Argentina’s values at its core:
Care, Trust, Impact, Quality and Heritage.
Ché is our way of honouring the past while building something for the future.
The name Ché itself is a nod to our roots. It’s a word you hear in every corner of Argentina. It means mate, friend, pal, a reminder that food is about connection.
What’s Next for Ché?
Winning a Great Taste Award is a huge step, but it’s only the beginning.
We’re now working on:
New dulce de leche variations, including one with dark chocolate and another low-sugar version
Recipe content and video tutorials to show customers how to use dulce de leche creatively
Collaborations with UK bakers, chocolatiers and ice cream makers, to elevate this amazing ingredient across different industries
Because for us, this isn’t just a sweet spread. It’s a movement.
We built Ché Dulce de Leche for people who care about what they eat, for those who want authenticity, flavour, and soul in every spoonful.
This Great Taste Award doesn’t just reward that effort, it validates everything we’ve been working towards.
So if you haven’t tried Ché yet, now is the perfect time.
And if you’re already a fan, thank you. This star is for you, too.
With gratitude,
Max Pistone
