A generous, high-altitude Malbec for steak nights and shared suppers
Domingo Molina Malbec x 750ml is a bold, rich and expressive red with the freshness that makes a generous pour feel lively at the table. Made from 100% Malbec, it brings concentrated high-altitude character and a little extra depth from a measured touch of French oak, while keeping the fruit at the centre.
Open it when the food is hearty and there are people to share it with: steak, grilled meats and empanadas are natural choices, while rich pasta and mature cheese make equally satisfying partners. This is a characterful Argentine red for an asado-inspired supper, a relaxed roast dinner or any meal that calls for a fuller, more warming bottle.
Why you’ll love it
- Rich but fresh in feel: a bold Malbec with the lift and concentration associated with its high-altitude home.
- Made for a proper meal: especially rewarding with steak, grilled meats, empanadas, rich pasta or mature cheese.
- Generous enough to share: a characterful choice for an asado-inspired supper, Sunday roast or relaxed dinner with friends.
- Fruit remains the focus: 30% of the wine sees French oak, adding depth and complexity without taking over.
- A distinctive expression of Salta: 100% Malbec from the Calchaquí Valleys rather than Argentina’s better-known Mendoza heartland.
The story behind the wine
Domingo Molina is a family wine-making project in North Yacochuya, near Cafayate in Salta’s Calchaquí Valleys. The producer is led by brothers Osvaldo, Gabriel and Rafael Domingo, whose work continues a family connection to wine in this dramatic north-western corner of Argentina.
Argentina’s national tourism body records that the winery was founded by the Domingo brothers and builds on the legacy of their father, a pioneer of wine production in the Calchaquí Valleys. That is a meaningful backdrop to a bottle that is closely tied to its place: family roots, mountain surroundings and a long-standing commitment to growing grapes in Salta.
For this Malbec, the vineyards sit between 2,000 and 2,200 metres above sea level, on alluvial sandy-loam soils with stones at depth. Intense sunshine and cooler nights in the valley help the grapes develop concentration while retaining freshness. The fruit is hand-picked in mid-March, fermented in concrete tanks with local yeasts and macerated with its skins for 20 days. Only 30% is then aged for 12 months in second- and third-use French oak, a restrained approach that adds depth while allowing the high-altitude Malbec character to show.
