The story behind the wine
San Pedro de Yacochuya comes from Cafayate, in Salta’s Calchaquí Valleys in north-west Argentina. Its vineyards sit at 2,035 metres above sea level in the Andes foothills, a dramatic setting of hot days and cool nights. For the drinker, that mountain setting is part of what makes the wine feel so fresh and distinctive.
The Yacochuya story began in 1988, when Dany and Michel Rolland were invited to consult for one of the Calchaquí Valley’s oldest families. They saw the potential of Cafayate’s old Malbec vines and went on to make wine with their Argentine friends, bringing their experience to a place whose culture and landscapes had made a lasting impression on them.
San Pedro de Yacochuya is the more immediately approachable sibling to Yacochuya. The producer describes it as made with the same care and sorting as its elder counterpart, while its Malbec-led blend with 15% Cabernet Sauvignon is shaped to keep its freshness, delicacy and red-fruit character at the forefront.
